William was born in Liberty, New York to parents who were professional musicians. He is a member of Actors’ Equity, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). He earned his B.A. in 1969 from City College of New York where he majored in music. After college, he reviewed recordings for American Record Guide and Fanfare magazines. He is working on a musical adaption of a charming 1956 television play by George Selden and Kenneth Heuer, The Genie of Sutton Place, a fantasy about a boy, Timothy, whose well-to-do aunt insists he replace his beloved basset hound with a poodle. With a little bit of magic, Timothy conjures a genie who turns his dog into a man, and both soon find their way into the household.
